James Andrews, MD, founder of Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Fla., recently performed ulnar collateral ligament repair on Atlanta Braves pitcher Arodys Vizcaino, according to a report from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Mr. Vizcaino partially tore his UCL while playing in the minor leagues in 2010, but the injury healed without surgery. However, he re-injured the elbow while pitching this spring.
Dr. Andrews performed the surgery, and Mr. Vizcaino will spend the next year recovering from the injury.
