Clarence Shields, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Group, and Kansas City Royals team physician Vincent Kay, MD, will perform knee surgery on Royals catcher Salvador Perez, according to an MLB report.
Mr. Perez injured his knee during warm-ups before a preseason game earlier this year. Drs. Shields and Kay have met to discuss the surgery, which will repair a lateral meniscus tear in Mr. Perez's left knee.
He is expected to spend six to 12 weeks recovering from the injury.
