Mark Myerson, MD, an ankle specialist who has treated several professional athletes, recently performed surgery on Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard to repair a torn Achilles tendon, according to a Delaware Online report.
Mr. Howard suffered the torn Achilles tendon while running to first base during his last at-bat during the postseason. Dr. Myerson confirmed a full tear in Mr. Howard's ankle and was able to successfully repair it.
The recovery process could take six months to one year. Mr. Howard is also receiving platelet-rich plasma injections to speed up the recovery process, according to the report.
