Ira Guttentag, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and team physician for the Tampa Bay Lightning, has performed arthroscopic knee surgery on both knees of Lightning defenseman Mattias Ohlund, according to a report from The Tampa Tribune.
Mr. Ohlund has been on the injured reserve list since the preseason, when he began to feel discomfort in his knees. According to the report, he underwent conservative treatment before deciding on surgery.
Although an MRI has showed no structural damage to Mr. Ohlund's knees, a second opinion from Anthony Miniaci, MD, at Cleveland Clinic convinced Mr. Ohlund to undergo the procedure. Mr. Ohlund will spend four to six weeks recovering.
