Rick B. Delamarter, MD, is the vice chair for spine services and co-medical director of the Spine Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Delamarter focuses on artificial disc replacements, motion preservation technology and minimally invasive spine surgery. His research interests include spinal cord injuries, the use of growth factors for fusion and the use of stem cells to repair degenerative disc disease. He was among the first spine surgeons to use growth factor tissue engineering for intervertebral discs and other new medical devices for dynamic stabilization and minimally invasive spine surgery. He recently led an FDA study comparing the results of fusion two-level disc replacement using the ProDisc-L.
He's been the recipient of the Volvo Award from the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, the New Investigator Award from the Orthopaedic Research Society and the Acromed Award from the North American Spine Society. Additionally, he's written more than 200 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts, and was a visiting fellow at Groupe Hospitalier Pitie-Salpetriere in Paris, France.
Dr. Delemarter earned a medical degree from the University of Oregon Health Science Center and completed an orthopedic surgical internship at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center. He completed his spine fellowship at Case Western Reserve University and was trained at the Acute Spinal Cord Injury Unit at Cleveland Veteran's Hospital.
