Memorial University Medical Center Beings Clinical Spine Trial

Spine

Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Ga., is participating in a clinical trial to redefine the surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis. Conventional stenosis surgery involves spinal fusion, but eliminating the natural range of motion may lead to further spine degeneration.

MUMC's investigators will perform a standard surgical decompression to relieve nerve pressure, but instead of fusing the spine, the surgeons will replace the facet joint with the ACADIA implant.

The ACADIA device is designed to preserve motion and may reduce the number of future surgical procedures typically required by the mechanical stress of fusion.
