Acadia Hospital Launches Pain Management Program Focused on Opioid Alternatives

Acadia Hospital in Bangor, Maine, recently launched a new pain management program aimed at teaching patients with chronic pain new ways to manage pain without opioids, according to a report from the Bangor Daily News. The eight week program is designed to help chronic pain patients increase activity and overcome anxiety and depression while decreasing their reliance on opioids, according to the report. The new program falls in line with the development of new restrictions on opioids for Medicaid patients in the state, requiring patients to prove other pain therapies have failed before receiving a prescription for opioids.
