The American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians has released new guidelines for opioid prescription to chronic non-cancer pain patients, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The guidelines were drafted by a 55-member panel of medical experts to include a two-part guide for care improvement. The guidelines are designed to curtail opioid abuse while allowing patients to seek medication treatment.
The guidelines include best practices for maintaining appropriate opioid for chronic pain management for 90 days or longer.
