Here are 15 hospitals expanding orthopedic and services.


Atmore (Ala.) Community Hospital has partnered with Andrews Institute for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine to increase orthopedic care coverage. The partnership will result in Andrews Institute Rehabilitation at Atmore Community Hospital.

The physicians of Orthopaedic Associates of Zanesville (Ohio) and Coshocton (Ohio) Hospital have partnered to bring more orthopedic services to Coshocton. The eight surgeons of Orthopaedic Associates of Zanesville will open a new office in Coshocton.

Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha completed a $3.2 million renovation on its orthopedic-neurological unit. The unit now includes 18 patient rooms, a gym and teaching kitchen for physical and occupational therapy.

A new $7 million orthopedic and neurosurgery unit recently opened at Detroit Medical Center's Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in Commerce, Mich. The new facility includes 21 private rooms and will turn an additional 21 semi-private rooms into private rooms.

Silverdale, Wash.-based Harrison Medical Center is pushing forward with its plans to build a $19.2 million orthopedic hospital, to be completed fall of 2013. The hospital would be owned by Harrison and managed by the surgeons of Orthopaedic Alliance of the Peninsula.

The Anderson Family Charitable Fund has given Jupiter (Fla.) Medical Center $5 million to create the Anderson Family Orthopedic & Spine Center, which will include 30 private patient rooms and the option for minimally invasive spinal interventions.

Kennedy University Hospital—Washington Township in Turnersville, N.J., opened at $5.7 million interventional neurosurgery suite.

Texas' Methodist Sugarland Hospital opened a new orthopedic and neurosurgery floor, which includes 56 beds, a gym and rehabilitation equipment. Orthopedics and neurosurgery are the fastest growing service lines at the hospital.

The New Methodist Center for Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine at Willowbrook in Houston recently opened its doors. The 25,000-square-foot facility includes a human performance lab, ImPACT baseline concussion testing and extensive running and throwing lanes.

The physicians of Northwestern Orthopaedic Institute joined NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, Ill., which will result in a new joint neurological and orthopedic spine care program. There were nearly two dozen NOI physicians in various orthopedic subspecialties who joined NorthShore.

Shannon Health System in San Angelo, Texas, unveiled its plan for an expanded orthopedic center to include physical therapy, sports medicine and other orthopedic services.

Southcoast Health System in New Bedford, Mass., has unveiled its Southcoast Brain & Spine Center for patients with neurological and spinal disorders. The new center will offer surgical and non-surgical treatment for patients.

Los Angeles' St. Vincent Medical Center opened the St. Vincent Orthopaedic Institute to complement its joint Replacement Institute, founded four years ago. The new facility includes eight additional examination rooms, an imaging suite and physician offices.

Billings, Mont.-based St. Vincent Healthcare announced plans to renovate and expand its current orthopedic unit to create an $8.2 million orthopedic center of excellence. The construction is scheduled for completion in 2013.

Texas Spine and Joint Hospital in Tyler recently broke ground on a new $20 million construction project to update patient rooms and add space to the facility
