Orthofix Spine Sales Decrease Offset by Orthopedic Sales Increase

Spinal Tech

Orthofix reported net sales of $144.7 million for the third quarter of 2011, representing a 4 percent increase over the third quarter of 2010, according to an Orthofix news release (pdf). The company's revenues from strategic projects were also up by 5 percent. The company experienced a 31 percent decrease in divested products and a 1 percent decrease in spinal products. The largest growth segment was orthopedics, which experienced a 16 percent increase over last year, followed by sports medicine, which experienced an 8 percent increase.

The success in orthopedics sales was driven by an increase in procedures using the company's Trinity Evolution knee implant.
