Spinal Tech

After an 18 month study, Eli Lilly's Forteo spinal injection has been shown to significantly increase bone strength in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, according to an Eli Lilly news release. During the study, researchers used a finite element analysis of quantitative CT scans to measure changes in vertebral and proximal femoral strength. They found a statistically significant increase in vertebral and femoral strength, 16.6 percent and 2.3 percent respectively, in women who were treated with Forteo.

There was an increase in trabecular and peripheral densities in the spine as well as an increase in trabecular density in the hip.
