MAKO Surgical, a Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.-based robotic device company, recently released the MAKOplasty Total Hip Arthroplasty system, according to a MAKO Surgical news release.
The company manufactures the RIO Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System for use during knee arthroplasty, and recently released the program developed for use during total hip arthroplasty. The application is designed to support the surgeon's ability to accurately align and position implants relative to each individual patient.
The system allows the surgeon to make a preoperative three dimensional reconstruction of the patient's hip for developing a surgical plan. During the procedure, the robotic arm assists the surgeon in preparing the joint and place the implants, which could reduce the risk for complications associated with the procedure.
