Spinal Tech

The San Diego trial recently began for NuVasive and Medtronic, which each have each alleged patent infringement lawsuits against the other, according to a Bloomberg report. Medtronic claims NuVasive infringed on three patents associated with minimally invasive spinal devices and NuVasive alleges that Medtronic Sofamor Danek USA has infringed on its patent for the lateral spine surgery nerve monitoring system. According to the report, Medtronic's lawyer said the company has calculated a loss of profits of at least $200 million due to the infringement.

The lawyer for NuVasive maintained that the company's product did not infringe on Medtronic's patents.
