Sue Bird, guard for the Seattle Storm women’s professional basketball team, had surgery on her right hip Tuesday morning, according to a report by The Washington Post.
After losing to the Phoenix Mercury last week in the WNBA playoffs, Ms. Bird said that the hip had been bothering her throughout the season.
The labrum surgery was performed by Marc J. Philippon, MD, at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo. Ms. Bird will stay at the clinic throughout the weekend and begin rehab. She is expected to return to playing by mid-to-late December.
