Early Treatment Best for Chronic Hip Pain in Young Athletes

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Young athletes with hip pain may be able to prevent later arthritis by having their pain treated early on, according to a release from Hospital for Special Surgery. According to Ernest Sink, MD, co-director of the Center for Hip Preservation at Hospital for Special Surgery, adolescent hip pain will occur in young athletes with structural abnormalities sooner than it will in less active youths, and abnormal persistent pain should be investigated.

Without treatment and appropriate management, young athletes with structural problems regarding the hip may develop additional issues.
