J.W. Thomas Byrd, MD, of the Nashville Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center, performed hip surgery on University of Maine's shortstop Mike Fransoso, according to a Bangor Daily News report. Mr. Fransoso will undergo the procedure to repair torn cartilage. He is expected to return in time for the 2013 season.
