AOSSM Names Dr. Christopher Harner President

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Christopher D. Harner, MD, medical director for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Center for Sports Medicine, has been named president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Harner is the Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He holds a secondary appointment as professor of physical therapy, health and physical activity. In addition to his teaching appointments, Dr. Harner serves as the program director of UPMC's Sports Medicine Fellowship Program and co-director of the UPMC sports medicine biomechanics/biodynamics laboratory.

Dr. Harner earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan and completed an orthopedic residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He also completed a sports medicine fellowship in Salt Lake City in 1987 and joined the full-time faculty at the University of Pittsburgh later that same year.
