James Andrews, MD, founder of Andrews Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Institute in Gulf Breeze, Fla., recently performed elbow surgery on Detroit Tigers pitcher Al Alburquerque, according to a report from the Morning Sun.
Mr. Alburquerque first reported the injury during a winter ball outing last week. Dr. Andrews performed surgery to stabilize a stress fracture in Mr. Alburquerque's throwing arm. The pitcher is expected to spend 12 weeks recovering before starting a throwing program.
He is expected to miss the first half of the 2012 season.
