Three dimensional CT scan-based measurements can be useful for planning and predicting the outcome for scoliosis corrective surgery, according to a study published in Spine.
In a study that included 50 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients undergoing corrective surgery, researchers examined the role of three dimensional deformities with CT scans. They found a significant decrease in coronal curvature, rip hump index and sternal shift as well as some decrease in vertebral rotation postoperatively.
Additional correlations were made between the different measurements to show the relationship between the parameters and outcomes.
