Workers who sustain work-related back injuries, especially younger adults and African Americans, have longer financial and domestic duress that escalates with each year after a claim settlement, according to a study published in Spine.
Researchers conducted a retrospective study reviewing the Missouri judicial records for African American and non-Hispanic white claimants. There was a statistically significant post-settlement increase in legal cases for general financial, domestic financial, residence financial and domestic behavior cases.
There was a significant interaction between age, race and time for general financial cases. There was also an interaction between race and domestic financial cases.
