Harry Herkowitz, MD, is the chairman of the department of spine surgery and director of the fellowship program in spine surgery at William Beaumont Hospital's department of orthopedic surgery in Royal Oak, Mich. Spine Surgeon Dr. Harry HerkowitzDr. Herkowitz specializes in surgical management of spinal disorders including spinal stenosis, herniated discs, deformity and trauma of the neck and back.

His research interests include degenerative solutions to aging discs and improving spinal implants. He has published research in orthopedic and spine journals, including writing 36 chapters, 39 peer-reviewed journal articles and 33 non peer-reviewed journal articles.

Dr. Herkowitz serves as the director of the research council for the North American Spine Society and a former president of the Spine Journal. He's a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, International Society for the Study of Lumbar Spine, Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons and Academic Orthopedic Society.

He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit and completed both his internship and a residency in orthopedic surgery at William Beaumont Hospital. He had a spine surgery fellowship at Pennsylvania Hospital.
