Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Ian Armstrong of the Southern California Spine Institute

Ian Armstrong, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon who founded the Southern California Spine Institute in Culver City and serves as its medical director. He specializes in treatment of cervical and lumbar spine injuries. Dr. Armstrong's clinical specialties are microsurgery and spinal instrumentation. He previously served at the director of the spine program at both Century City Hospital and Midway Hospital in Los Angeles and was the former chief of neurosurgery at Century City Hospital.

He actively lectures to medical professionals and universities and has published numerous papers on spinal disorders and procedures.

Dr. Armstrong received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he was awarded a research fellowship grant on spinal cord trauma from the National Institutes of Health. He also completed a spine fellowship with neurological and orthopedic training at the University of South Florida.

He is a member of the American Association of Neurosurgeons, North American Spine Society, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and Los Angeles County Medical Association. Dr. Armstrong is also a diplomat of the American Board of Neurosurgeons.
