Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: B. Stephens Richards of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children

B. Stephens Richards, MD, is currently the president of the Scoliosis Research Society and the chief medical officer at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. He previously served as chief of staff and director of inpatient services at TSRHC. In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Richards is also a professor in the orthopedic surgery department at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Throughout his career, Dr. Richards has been a member of several professional organizations, including American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Orthopaedic Association. He is past chairman of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America.

Dr. Richards also participates in research, which has been published in professional journals. He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics and is a consultant reviewer for Spine. He has also presented at several national and international meetings, including the SRS annual meeting in Japan and SRS Worldwide Conference in China.

Dr. Richards earned his medical degree at St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. His additional training includes the Harrington Fellowship of Pediatric Orthopaedics and Scoliosis at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
