Andrew Hecht, MD, is co-director of spine surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City and a spinal consultant to the New York Jets, New York Islanders and New York Dragons professional teams. He is the director of the NFL Spine Care Program for retired players at Mount Sinai.
"Our team of specialists is thrilled to have been included among the medical institutions that will be helping provide the retired NFL players with the latest, most technically advanced surgical procedures for spine care and related services," Dr. Hecht said. When the program was launched at Mount Sinai in 2009, it was the only hospital selected on the East Coast and was one of five locations for the program in the United States.
Throughout his career, Dr. Hecht has been selected for NY Magazine's Top Doctors and appeared on Castle and Connolly's Top Doctors for the New York Metro Area. He has been elected to the New York Times Super Doctors and Best Doctors in America lists as well. His clinical interests include cervical and lumbar spine surgery, minimally invasive spinal procedures, spinal tumors and trauma.
Before joining Mount Sinai, Dr. Hecht founded and served as medical co-director of The Newton-Wellesley Spine Center and director of the spine surgery fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is a member of the North American Spine Society and serves on the editorial review board for a professional spine journal.
Dr. Hecht earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School in Boston and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Program. His additional training includes a fellowship in spine surgery at Emory Spine Center in Atlanta.
