Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation to Open Children's Pain Medicine Clinic

Pain Management

Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation in Washington, D.C., will be opening its first specialized pain medicine clinic for children in early January 2013, according to an AME Info report.
The clinic will be located at the Children's National Medical Center headquarters on the Sheikh Zayed Campus for Advanced Children's Medicine in Washington, D.C. It plans on providing families access to multi-disciplinary experts in pain management including psychology, physical therapy, alternative therapies and traditional medical treatments at one location.

The clinic also seeks to adopt a "personalized" approach and will tailor treatments to each child and family. Research already ongoing within the Sheikh Zayed Institute's Pain Medicine Initiate, such as the genetic research exploring how children will respond to a drug or treatment, will be used to improve care at the new clinic as well. It will also collect data from patients to determine which methods are working.
