University of Washington pain specialist Alex Cahana, MD, recently spoke at a pain management conference in Portland, urging a new dialogue to understand pain management differently, according to The Lund Report. He discussed opioid abuse and different types of pain and chronic pain that specialists treat. He urged providers to think of pain as a verb, not a noun, to address the mind-body connection, according to the report. He also discussed expectations for living with pain and how to help people manage their pain and manage their lives with pain.
