15 Expansions of Orthopedic and Spine Services at Hospitals

Massachusetts' Cambridge Health Alliance expanded orthopedic care by opening rehabilitation services at its new Malden Bone and Joint Center. The specialists take care of patients with back pain, sports injuries, joint replacements and other issues. In August, Texas' Covenant Health System opened its remodeled orthopedic unit, which now includes 30 beds and a new gym facility specifically for orthopedic patients.

Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha has created an orthopedic-neurological unit in a previously unused ward. The hospital spent $3.2 million on renovations that include 18 patient rooms and a therapy gym.

Palm Springs, Calif.-based Desert Regional Medical Center opened its new Joint and Spine Pavilion in September. The $7 million facility includes 18 private rooms and a physical therapy gym.

El Camino Hospital
in Los Gatos, Calif., recently opened the El Camino Hospital Orthopedic Pavilion, designed specifically for orthopedic and spine patients. The pavilion includes physical therapy services and private patient amenities.

Ohio's Fairfield Medical Center opened a new orthopedic unit designed for an enhanced patient experience. The new unit includes private rooms and family accommodations and is designed to promote recovery from orthopedic surgery.

The John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center launched The Brain & Spine Institute to provide care for patients with metastatic tumors and neurologic complications related to cancer.

New York City's Hospital for Special Surgery recently opened a new pediatric rehabilitation center, funded in part by a $5 million grant from CA Technologies Rehabilitation Center.

also announced the establishment of HSS Spine & Sport in Jupiter, Fla., which is its first expansion beyond New York. The new building will include specialists in spine, orthopedics, sports rehabilitation, massage therapy and performance training.

Lake Charles (La.) Memorial Hospital recently introduced the Hip Center of Louisiana, which focuses on surgical and non-surgical solutions for hip injuries and conditions.

In July, Montefiore Medical Center opened a new orthopedic center at Hutchinson Metro Center in Bronx, N.Y.

Physician-owned hospital Oakland Regional Hospital in Southfield, Mich., is planning to open a new orthopedic clinic in the coming months.

New York's Peconic Bay Medical Center opened the Krauss Center for Joint Replacements, named for Eugene Krauss, MD, who performed 600 joint replacements in five years at PBMC without an incidence of infection.

Ohio-based Promedica Toledo Hospital recently opened the Promedica Wildwood Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital, an all-digital facility. The $33 million hospital includes six high-tech ORs and 36 private rooms.

A partnership between Tucson Medical Center and Tucson Orthopaedic Institute will consolidate orthopedic services in a new building called West Pavilion. The partnership was recently announced and the building is expected to open in April 2013.
