On a scale of one to five, with one being very unhappy and five being very happy, the average orthopedic surgeon rated themselves as 3.96. Among physicians in general, orthopedic surgeons tied with ob/gyn physicians for the 12th happiest specialty, which was also the average happiness report overall. • 1 (very unhappy): about 5 percent of orthopedic surgeons
• 2: about 5 percent
• 3: about 15 percent
• 4: about 34 percent
• 5 (very happy): about 36 percent
The survey also asked examined whether an orthopedic surgeons' marital status impacted their happiness. The happiest orthopedic surgeons were those who were married, but the number of marriages didn't make a difference. Surgeons who reported separation also reported being very distressed, according to the report. More than 70 percent of orthopedic surgeons reported being in their first marriage, while around 15 percent reported being remarried. Around 10 percent were either single and living alone, divorced or separated.
