Five physician practices in New Jersey are partnering with a Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey subsidiary on new payment methods for orthopedic procedures, according to an AIS Health report.
The pilot program was unveiled in February and includes an episode-of-care payment model where a single practice or provider takes responsibility for a joint replacement patient’s entire care, including preoperative evaluation and rehabilitation services. The physician receives a fixed reimbursement for the services.
The bundled payments are focusing on osteoarthritis patients and are designed to improve quality outcomes.
