Cleveland Clinic recently announced it will spin off a new start-up company that develops software for orthopedic surgeons to preplan operations, according to a MedCity news report.
The program, OrthoVis, uses a patient's CT scan to produce a three-dimensional model of the patient's anatomy. Surgeons are able to manipulate the space, zoom in and access cross-sectional images to navigate the procedure. The Custom Orthopaedic Solutions technology was developed by Joseph Iannoti, MD, who serves as chair of the Cleveland Clinic Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic Institute.
The technology is designed to improve accuracy of the procedure as a result of a more refined preplanning process. COS is also developing a patient-specific bone model and enhanced patient-specific bone model, according to the report.
