Spinal Tech

The FDA has cleared the PICO system from Smith & Nephew, according to a Smith & Nephew news release. The PICO is a single use navigation pressure wound therapy system and cleared for use in the hospital and homecare setting. The system has expanded indications to include a wider range of patients undergoing orthopedic, plastic and general surgery procedures.

PICO is pocket-sized and has a seven-day duration, which allows for a quicker transition into an outpatient care setting. The system doesn't include any canister or reservoir for fluid, so patients can manage their NPWT at home without additional nursing visits.

PICO is indicated for chronic, acute and traumatic wounds, subacute and dehisced wounds, partial-thickness burns, ulcers, flaps and grafts and closed surgical incisions.
