St. Helena (Calif.) Hospital has opened the Surgical Learning Institute, Napa Valley, and its first program was held last month to instruct surgeons on the MAKOplasty robotic technology for orthopedic procedures. Surgeons from the Coon Joint Replacement Institute, which offers a fellowship program that includes training on robotic and minimally invasive joint procedures, taught the program. There were 43 orthopedic surgeons and allied health professionals present for the MAKOplasty Surgeon Masters Course.
For now, orthopedic surgeons have access to MAKOplasty software for knee and hip replacement procedures.
