Spinal Tech

DFINE, a San Jose, Calif.-based medical device company, announced the first patient was treated successfully with its Spinal Tumor Ablation with Radiofrequency System. The system is a targeted radiofrequency ablation device that delivers energy directly into a metastatic vertebral body tumor to heat and destroy tumor cells and provide palliative pain relief. The system was developed specifically for treating patients with spinal tumors.

The first procedure was performed at the University of Louisville Hospital/James Graham Brown Cancer Center. The company expects the system to become fully commercially available later this year.
