Kent Medical Devices received Food and Drug Administration clearance for a long-term implantable medical device used for detecting biopsy and soft tissue sites during and after surgical procedures, according to a Medscape Today report.
The device, KMD-Mark1, is made using barium-containing radio-opaque polyaryletherketone polymer, a substance similar to bone. The device radiographically marks the soft tissue areas during spinal and orthopedic procedures. The material has been used in worldwide implants.
