Michael Bernot, MD. Dr. Bernot is a physician with Peachtree Orthopaedic Clinic in Atlanta. Dr. Phelps is a physician of internal medicine with a professional interest in sports medicine. He practices with Arrowhead Health Centers in Glendale, Ariz. He is a member of the NBA Team Physicians Society, and serves on the board of trustees for the Arizona Osteopathic Medicine Association. In addition to his responsibilities with the Suns, Dr. Phelps is a physician for the Phoenix Mercury WNBA team and Ballet Arizona. Dr. Phelps earned his DO at Kirksville (Mo.) College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dennis Crandall, MD.
Dr. Crandall is the medical director of Sonoran Spine Center in Phoenix and a consultant to the Phoenix Suns. He also serves as spine chief of the Banner Orthopaedic Residency Program and chairman of the Sonoran Spine Research and Education Foundation. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Crandall has developed a new spinal instrumentation system to solve difficult spinal deformity problems. He is a member of several professional societies, including North American Spine Society, Scoliosis Research Society and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Crandall earned his medical degree at St. Louis University, where he also completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. His additional training includes a fellowship at the University of Maryland in College Park.

Portland Trail Blazers

Don Roberts, MD. Dr. Roberts is an orthopedic surgeon with Rebound in Vancouver, Wash. He earned his medical degree from Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., and completed an orthopedic residency at Harvard University in Boston. Dr. Roberts also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He has a professional interest in knee arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction and management of disorders of articular cartilage. He was one of the first physicians in the Northwest to perform MAKOplasty robotic surgery for partial knee resurfacing procedures. He is affiliated with the American College of Surgeons and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In addition to his practice, Dr. Roberts serves as a consultant reviewer and associate editor of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.

Thomas C. Reis, MD.
Dr. Reis is an internal medicine physician and has been team internist for the Portland Trailblazers since 1994. He is an active member of the hospital staff at Southwest Washington Medical Center and a fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Reis earned his medical degree at Creighton University in Omaha and completed his residency at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. He has additional training in internal medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Sacramento Kings

Eric Heiden, MD. Dr. Heiden is co-founder of Heiden Davis Orthopaedics in Park City, Utah. He earned his medical degree from Stanford (Calif.) University. He has a professional interest in knee and sports medicine and has worked with several professional and Olympic athletes. Before earning his medical degree, Dr. Heiden had a successful career as a speed skater and won five Olympic Gold Medals in speed skating during the 1980 Olympic Games. Dr. Heiden is co-founder of the UC Davis Sports Performance Program in Sacramento and author of the book Faster, Better, Stronger.

David D. Cosca, MD.
Dr. Cosca is an associate physician with UC Davis Sports Medicine and a team physician for the Sacramento Kings. He has a professional interest in treating sports-related injuries. Dr. Cosca is a member of the American Medical Society and authored several professional publications throughout his career. Dr. Cosca earned his medical degree at UC Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento and completed his residency at the UC Davis Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship at UC Davis Medical Center.

Richard A. Marder, MD.
Dr. Marder is chief of sports medicine and clinical director of the sports medicine program with the UC Davis Health System. He has a professional interest in arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Marder is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North America and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Marder earned his medical degree at UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles, where he also completed his residency. His additional training includes a fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University in Boston.

Jeffrey L. Tanji, MD.
Dr. Tanji is co-director of the sports medicine program with the UC Davis Health System. He serves as team physician for the Sacramento Kings and Sacramento Monarchs WNBA team. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Tanji is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and American Medical Society of Sports Medicine. Dr. Tanji earned his medical degree at UC Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento, where he also completed his residency.

San Antonio Spurs

David R. Schmidt, MD. Dr. Schmidt is a physician with Sports Medicine Associates in San Antonio. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he also completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Schmidt's additional training includes a fellowship in sports medicine and knee surgery in Sydney, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand. He has a professional interest in cartilage repair and restoration. Dr. Schmidt is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In addition to his work with the Spurs, Dr. Schmidt is affiliated with the Silver Stars WNBA team.

Paul S. Saenz, DO.
Dr. Saenz is a physician with Sports Medicine Associates in San Antonio. He earned his medical degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth. Dr. Saenz's additional training includes a sports medicine fellowship in Seattle. In addition to his work with the Spurs, Dr. Saenz is affiliated with the WNBA Silver Spurs and several other local teams. He has previously served as a physician for the Olympic Games.

Ralph J. "Bud" Curtis, MD.
Dr. Curtis is a physician with Sports Medicine Associates in San Antonio. He earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio, where he also completed his fellowship in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Curtis' additional training includes a fellowship in shoulder surgery at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio. In addition to his practice, he has authored several book chapters on orthopedics and sports medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. Dr. Curtis is also affiliated with the Silver Stars WNBA team.

Toronto Raptors

Paul Marks, MD. Dr. Marks is an associate scientist with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Canada. He earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto in Canada and completed his orthopedic residency with the University of Western Ontario. His research focus includes risk factors for sports injuries and osteoarthritis progression after ACL injury, specifically activities involving biomechanics, ultrastructural morphology and clinical aspects of the cruciate and meniscofemoral ligaments. Dr. Marks hold grants from the Canadian Institute of Health Research and the Canadian Arthritis Network for research in predicting knee arthritis development. During his career, Dr. Marks has published several articles in professional publications.

Utah Jazz

Lyle Mason, MD. Dr. Mason is a physician at Bountiful (Utah) Orthopedic & Sports. He earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed additional training in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Mason has served as the president of the NBA Team Physicians Society. In addition to his clinical practice, he is a founding member of the MonaVie Medical Advisory Board.

Washington Wizards

Stephen S. Haas, MD. Dr. Haas is a physician with Washington Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Washington, D.C. He earned his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Haas also completed a fellowship in orthopedic research. Dr. Haas was named NBA Physician of the Year in 2007, and he has served as president of the NBA Team Physicians Society. In addition to his work with the Wizards, Dr. Haas has been affiliated with the Washington Capitals professional hockey team and the National Football League. He has also earned the Arthritis Foundation's Career Achievement Award.

Marc D. Connell, MD.
Dr. Connell is an orthopedic surgeon with a special interest in joint replacement. He is president of Washington Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and has served as a team physician for the Washington Wizards since 1993. He is now head team physician of the Wizards as well as team physician for the Washington Capitals professional hockey team. He previously served as head team physician for the Washington Mystics WNBA team and chief medical officer for the World Cup and Olympic Soccer. Dr. Connell is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He earned his medical degree at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where he also completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. His additional training includes a fellowship from Yale University Sports Medicine in New Haven, Conn.

Benjamin S. Shaffer, MD.
Dr. Shaffer is a sports medicine and arthroscopy physician at Washington Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. He currently serves as an assistant team physician for the Washington Wizards and head team physician for the Washington Capitals professional hockey team. Previously, he served as a team physician for the Washington Nationals and Washington Freedom professional women's soccer team. He has also been of the NHL Team Physicians Society. Throughout his career, Dr. Shaffer authored more than 50 text book chapters and lections nationally at orthopedic meetings. Dr. Shaffer is a member of several professional societies, including American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
