More Than 20% of Clinicians Use Two or More Social Media Sites for Work and Play

Health Information Technology

More than 20 percent of surveyed clinicians use two or more social media sites each for personal and professional use, according to a report (pdf) by QuantiaMD and the Care Continuum Alliance. The report, "Doctors, Patients & Social Media" surveyed clinicians on their use of social media sites, including social networking (e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn), physician networking, patient communities, blogs and YouTube, for both professional and personal use.

The approximately 20 percent of clinicians who had the highest use of sites in both areas of life were dubbed "Connected Clinicians," and were the most eager to use social media to improve healthcare, measured by their reported interest in the sites listed.

The other groups of clinicians identified were "Just for fun," for those who use two or more site for personal use but one or fewer for professional use; "All work," which includes clinicians who use two or more sites for professional use but no more than one for personal use; and "Traditionalists," who use no more than one site each for personal and professional use.
