Michael Bronson, MD, chief of joint replacement surgery and associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, is now performing anterior total hip replacements at the hospital, according to a hospital news release.
The new minimally invasive technique avoids cutting muscles, which reduces postoperative pain, blood loss and recovery time. During the procedure, surgeons reach the hip joint without detaching muscles from the femur or the pelvis.
