Tom Gill, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, previously served as medical director for the team. Now, the Red Sox will rely upon a team of physicians: Larry Ronan, MD, will continue as the head team internist and Peter Asnis, MD, has been promoted to head team orthopedist.
The changes reflect a need for an increased level of clinical care in the clubhouse as well as medical staff to address traditional day-to-day needs before the games, according to the news release. The team's training staff has also been in flux.

The Boston Red Sox have realigned medical staff and eliminated the position of a medical director to make the process of medical care run more efficiently, according to a team news release.
