Gunnar Andersson, MD, a spine surgeon at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush in Chicago, recently received the Orthopaedic Research Society's Alfred R. Shands Jr., MD Award and Lecture, according to an AAOS Now report.
Dr. Andersson is the chairman emeritus and Ronald L. DeWald, MD, Chair of Spinal Deformities at Rush University Medical Center. During his career, he has authored more than 250 academic papers and 150 book chapters related to back pain and injuries.
Dr. Andersson earned his medical degree at Sahlgren Hospital, University of Goteberg, in Sweden, where he also completed his residency. His additional training includes a fellowship in orthopedics at The London Hospital in the United Kingdom.
