Applicants do not need to be NASS members. All qualified applicants in any specialty will be considered. Proposals can involve any spine-related research and there is no limit to funding requests. There are five proposal types:
• Research grants
• Young investigator grants
• Nontraditional, nonsurgical treatment grants
• Clinical traveling fellowship
• Research traveling fellowship
Through these research-funding grants, NASS supports basic, clinical and translational science performed with integrity. The goal of the grants is to improve quality spine care for patients and understanding of underlying disorders.

Letters of proposal for NASS' 2012 research funding applications are due Feb. 6, according to a NASS news release (pdf).
