Here are 20 orthopedic practices that have partnered with hospitals, merged together or expanded over the past several months.


Andrews Institute for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine
has partnered with Atmore (Ala.) Community Hospital to increase orthopedic coverage. The new Andrews Institute Rehabilitation at the hospital will be available for patients who need physical, occupational and speech therapy.

Blair Orthopedics
in Altoona, Pa., recently opened a clinic at Tyrone Hospital. The practice physicians include subspecialists in back and neck care, extremities and sports medicine.

New York-based Excelsior Orthopaedics and the Hand and Shoulder Center of Western New York combined to create a large medical group specializing in hand and upper extremity treatment. The new group is called the Hand and Shoulder Center at Excelsior and located on the Excelsior Medical Campus.

Orthopedic surgeons Michael T. Lu, MD, and Cristobal Beiro, MD, joined to form Garden State Bone & Joint Specialists. The practice has also joined the Human Motion Institute at Raritan Bay Medical Center in New Jersey.

The Institute for Nerve, Hand & Reconstructive Surgery
has become a partner practice of Malo Clinic Health & Wellness in Rutherford, N.J. The partnership is a result of Malo's efforts to bring more physicians under one roof.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based physician group The Institute for Non-Surgical Orthopedics partnered with Larkin Community Hospital in South Miami to create a neuro-musculoskeletal residency program affiliated with Nova Southeastern University's College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Kruger Clinic Orthopaedics has begun development on its new medical office building in Edmonds, Wash. The new facility, expected to open Dec. 2012, will include surgical suites, digital radiology and DEXA.

The physicians from Northwestern Orthopaedic Institute recently joined NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, Ill. As a result of the integration, NorthShore plans to develop a joint neurologic and orthopedic spine care program.

OA Centers for Orthopaedics
based in Portland, Maine, recently opened a new medical and physical therapy office in Brunswick. The office is the practice's third satellite location in the past five years.

Earlier this year, OrthoCarolina merged with NorthEast Orthopedics. The practice, now called OrthoCarolina Concord, includes subspecialists in extremity, spine and sports medicine care.

OrthoNeuro, a Columbus, Ohio-based orthopedic practice, opened the state's first orthopedic urgent care center in New Albany. The center was created as an alternative to the ER and physicians treat patients on a walk-in basis.

Four orthopedic practices in northern Texas recently joined to form OrthoTexas. The 25-member physician group includes seven locations with subspecialists covering spine, joint reconstruction and sports medicine.

The physicians of Orthopaedic Associates of Zanesville (Ohio) partnered with Coshocton (Ohio) Hospital to open a new orthopedic office in Coshocton. The office will be staffed by Orthopaedic Associates of Zanesville physicians, bringing eight new orthopedists to Coshocton.

This past fall, Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute opened its 15th medical office building. The new Marlton, N.J.-based facility includes X-ray rooms and epidural injection suites.

Massachusetts-based orthopedic practice South Shore Orthopaedics recently partnered with A.W. Perry and South Shore Hospital to open the Center for Orthopedics, Spine and Sports Medicine. The new facility includes an ambulatory surgery center, diagnostic imaging services and pain management.

The physicians of Southern Bone and Joint Specialists in Hattiesburg, Miss., partnered with Forrest General Hospital to build a new orthopedic hospital. The new facility will include 30 orthopedic beds and is expected to cost more than $30 million.

Steadman Philippon Research Institute, affiliated with physicians of The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., has completed its new Biomechanics Laboratories and Surgical Skills facilities, which focuses on research in orthopedic sports medicine. SPRI partnered with Vail Valley Medical Center on the project.

A partnership between Tucson Orthopaedic Institute and Tucson Medical Center will consolidate orthopedic services in a new building, called West Pavilion. The building is expected to open April 2013.

Tulsa Bone & Joint Associates opened Oklahoma's first orthopedics-focused urgent care center. The urgent care center was part of a new facility that will also include a rheumatology division and spine center.

West End Orthoapedic Clinic, based in Richmond, Va., recently expanded to include a new office location focused on orthopedics and sports medicine. The practice also changed its name to OrthoVirginia, which includes 40 physicians and 11 office locations.
