Seattle-based medical device company Amp Orthopedics initiated two clinical trials for a total knee replacement and an arthroscopic rotator cuff repair procedure, according to a company news release.
The trials are randomized, double-blinded, sham-controlled studies to determine the safety and effectiveness of the company's non-thermal pulsed radiofrequency technology to reduce narcotic use, decrease pain and increase function for patients. The trials are expected to yield results sometime in 2012.
The trial for the rotator cuff repair procedure will enroll 102 patients and follow them for six weeks. The knee trial will enroll 100 patients and follow them for four weeks.
