Zimmer Holdings has reported first quarter FY 2011 net sales of $1.12 billion, representing an increase of 5.0 percent compared to the first quarter of FY 2010, according to a company news release.

A detailed break-out of Zimmer's sales showed approximately $842 million stemmed from worldwide sales of its reconstructive products, while worldwide sales of its knee and hip products totaled $462 million and $337 million, respectively. Spine sales comprised $57 million of the company's total net sales.

The company also reported net earnings for Q1 were $208.9 million on a reported basis and $230.9 million on an adjusted basis, an increase of 11.4 percent adjusted over the prior year period.

Zimmer President and CEO David Dvorak attributed its solid sales results to the success of recently launched products. Earlier this year, the company launched a new mobile bearing knee design and introduced its line of Patient Specific Instruments.
