CaroMont Health and Blue Cross Create Bundled Payment Program for Knee Replacements
Written by Sabrina Rodak | March 22, 2011
CaroMont Health in Gastonia, N.C., and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina have created a bundled payment program for knee replacements, according to a news release.
The program is based on the Prometheus payment model and would cover the 30-day pre-surgical period, the surgery and most follow-up care within 180 days of discharge. Federal employees under BCBSNC and customers with BCBSNC Medicare plans are ineligible for the bundled payments.
This value-based model is part of CaroMont's plan to form an accountable care organization. Physician practices Carolina Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center, P.A. and Gaston Anesthesia and Pain Management Associates are participating in the program.
CaroMont Health and BCBSNC plan to implement the payment program in early April.
